Tasted by DaButtah on 1/28/2022 & rated 95 points: Absolutely floored by this wine. Takes about an hour to open up and then it's off to the races. This is 53 YEARS OLD AND IT'S STILL NOT DONE. (1068 views)
Tasted by DaButtah on 11/19/2018 & rated 94 points: Oh hell yes! Amazing bottle that wildly surpassed expectations. This isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Lesson learned: do not doubt the Napa Masters of Old. (1992 views)
Tasted by MattMauldin on 8/18/2017: Society of Wine Educators Conference- Napa Valley Through The Decades (single blind); 8/18/2017-8/19/2017: Bricking color. Tertiary aromas of dried violets, black tea, dried fig and currant, herbal-dill, savory spices. Showing bright and succulent floral fruit on the palate, with layered tertiary depth. Seamless and elegant throughout, bright acidity, medium-bodied. Resolved grainy tannin, finishing full. A classic wine, beautifully aged. (2869 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/10/2016 & rated 86 points: Chicago Wine Flock...Gary Opens Cali Cab (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind alongside the lovely 1970. Magnum. Very mature to start, this was then on a precipitous decline. (3753 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 6/10/2016 & rated 88 points: Wine Flock Intro-Retro Blind Tasting (Gary's home outside on the porch, Chicago IL): Out of magnum pop and pour served blind, musty smell, developed in the glass and then a slow decline. Good showing of an older Cab. (3753 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 6/10/2016 & rated 89 points: Tasted side-by-side with the 1970, both out of magnum. This was good but not as impressive as the 1970. Lots of complex cedar, decaying earth and cigar notes. Palate has moderately intense fruit and acid, but it seems to be on the downslope, particularly relative to the 1970. (3470 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 5/16/2015 & rated 92 points: Mike Grammer comes to town (Galletto Ristorante, Modesto Ca.): Awesome birth year wine….very dark purple youthful color, very smooth….no real tannins left here, but still alive…..silky smooth, delicate…old cellar dust, leather, dried cherry, plum…….we really needed to drink this up upon uncorking…the Chef got the first and probably the best taste…as it started to fade later on. PnP next time! (3401 views)
Tasted by Morg on 3/11/2014 & rated 95 points: Won at a wine auction along with another '69, a 70 and 2 73's, bottles all in great condition, fills into the necks. Cork saturated through, but came out in one piece. I wasn't sure what to expect from this wine, but was blown away. Still very lively, red plum flavors and leather. Very nice! I can't wait to try the other vintages. (3016 views)
Tasted by jamiekutch on 5/18/2005: THE FIRST SUPPER – Dinner with Robert Parker; 5/17/2005-5/18/2005 (Corks Restaurant, Baltimore Maryland): Shallow and missing mid fruit. Dried out and dull. (5877 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
