An evening of Doms

Introduction

Quite an opportunity to enjoy 6 bottles of Doms with home catering. Stylistically very similar from the 73 to the 2000, just a matter of vintage and date of disgorgement. Very glad to be able to try the Oenotheque Rose 1990 and compared it side by side with the normal 1990 rose. Other than the added youthfulness, it will be hard for me to fork out a lot more dough for this rare Dom.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 1985 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Nicely aged Dom, light to medium golden in color, yeasty nose, with a rich and full palate full of fruit and substance that is not over the top like Salon or Krug. Rich but with lots of layers, very enjoyable and still got lots of life ahead.

  • 1990 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon Rosé 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Color is the same as the Oenotheque version of this wine and the body is the same thing. But the nose is vastly different, the regular version more developed and fuller but a tad less exciting and need a slightly higher temp to enjoy. The wine itself is starting to develop secondary flavors so it is actually advisable to cellar this for a few more years to fully enjoy this very well made wine.

  • 1990 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé Oenothèque 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Medium yellow to pinkish color, disgorged in 2007. Nose is like the normal 90 Rose but with extra elements of hazelnut and oak, very youthful. The wine itself is very much like the normal 90 rose but the nose is much fresher and indeed more complex, this should live much longer than the normal version. Stylistically different from the normal 90 and cannot say which one is superior, its a matter of taste and also the price tag of this bottle is simply stratospheric.

  • 1973 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon Rosé 94 Points

    France, Champagne

After tasting the relatively younger bottles of Dom Roses, the performance of this comes at no surprise, and stylistically very similar but just a tad more mature than the 85. Color is paler pinkish red, bubbles still very fine and much alive. Nose of cooked caramel and strawberry candy, medium plus body that is very lush and silky, I think can still keep for an extended period but won't hurt to open some now.

  • 1985 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon Rosé 95 Points

    France, Champagne

A superb and close to mature Dom Rose. Initially nose a but restrained and not giving as much as the regular dom 85. Compared with the Dom Rose 73 this seems a bit leaner. But as time goes by this opened up considerably, to the fact that it surpassed the 73. Nose of nuts and brioche came out after 2 hours, and so is the palate became much more layered, feels younger than the regular Dom 85 and will live for a very long time. Still very enjoyable at room temperature.

  • 2000 Dom Pérignon Champagne Rosé 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Still very young and tight, color is pinkish red, nose of slight burnt rubber, nuts and yeast. The wine itself very full quite unlike the regular Dom 2000, in fact the warmer it gets the bigger it becomes. Quite a powerful wine to have but I would enjoy this wine much better in perhaps 5-6 years.
