A group of nine of us gathered at Meritage for wonderful evening of fine rose wines from Solo Vino in St. Paul. The delightful menu was expertly paired and prepared by James Beard Best Chef Nominee Russell Klein.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

Light pink color with a bit of spritz. The nose shows raspberry and strawberry with minerals and a subtle briar essence. The palate is tart, light, good acid, strawberry, raspberry, nice. Very good sipper.

  • 2010 Commanderie de la Bargemone Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Rosé 87 Points

    France, Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

Incredibly pale salmon color. Nose is modest with citrus and mineral. The palate shows marked acid, citrus, mineral, and a bit of tannin. This needs some food, not a great sipper for me.

Nice strawberry color. Blend of 70% Montepulciano, 15% Sangiovese, and 15% Alicante. The nose is lovely with cherry, strawberry, melon, and earth. The palate is fresh and lively, bright strawberry, strawberry kool aid, nice acid and some tannins. This is very fun and very easy to enjoy.

Closing

There was a nice mix of roses from France, Italy, and Spain. The WOTN for me was the Morodor rose blend.
