Roberson Wine, South Ken, London
Tasted Thursday, March 8, 2012 by Papies with 486 views
Another great event organised by the Roberson crew.
For left bank lovers like us this was a good opportunity to see the dark side of the Bordeaux moon. In general we consider the right bank a bit too Burgundian in marketing and in pricing were you end up paying more for a romantic location and story rather than a wine.
Pavie 2003????
Cheval Blanc 2003???
Tertre Roteboeuf 1999, a Great wine and generally a wine maker we need to look for.
2008 Clos de l'Oratoire 87 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Young red fruit nose, some chocolate notes.. Sharp and far too young. En Primeur young. Lots of lush fruit on the palate and oak still floats around un-integrated. A bit soft and lacks structure. 86/87

2006 Château L'Arrosée 86 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Mocha/oaky notes on the nose. Light red fruit and floral herby notes. On the palate u get a hit of tannin to start but then u get good fruit on the follow. Way too young and sharp at this stage. A touch on the simple side and lacks concentration. A touch of green too. 86

2001 Château La Dominique 87 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dark red in colour. Nice nose, dark fruit notes, menthol light oak. Still very powerful and sharp on the palate, musty. A bit harsh with lots of acidity. 87/88

2000 Château Yon-Figeac 88 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Nice on the nose, elegant with light fruit and minty notes. On the palate it fails though, far too powerful and harsh tannins. And then you are left with a feeling of low concentration and no complexity. Disappointing for a 2000. 88

2003 Château Pavie 90 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Ah! The Famously controversial 2003 Pavie. Dark red. Sweet red fruit nose, and lots of oak. Mocha notes. Tannins are very much alive yet approachable. Lots of extraction. To us this felt like a well round wine, well built but wrapped in an unnecessary cloak of oak which sort of takes so much away. 90-91.

1999 Tertre Rôteboeuf 95 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dark red in colour. Lush fruit and oaky notes on the nose. Some Minty/floral notes too. On the palate it is elegant, rich and full but also very fresh. Lots of complexity (especially for a 99) and this is a wonderful wine. A great find. 95/96

1999 Château Clos St. Martin 89 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Light restrained on the nose. Roundish on the palate but still quite tannic. Alive and Kicking. Enjoyable but not memorable in any way . On the way down too so start to drink this. 89

1998 Château Ausone 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Dark and dense in colour. Light mint and herb on the nose. Nose is almost closed. Light and balanced, very elegant. Supple tannin. Mineral. Unfortunately also a bit disappointing. We expected so much more and hopefully this will bloom into something but we can’t really tell. 92

2003 Château Cheval Blanc 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Very much a hot vintage wine. Dark red, Sweet jammy nose, alcoholic and overpowering. A bit too sweet and to the point of being indigestible . Fresher than the Pavie though . Is this a case of being too young? 90-91 . Maybe 2003 is a year to avoid in the right bank…

1995 Château Figeac 93 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Minty, Herby notes dominate the nose. Well round and still very much alive and with good palate presence. Good length and acidity. A touch of green and although not the most complex wine you cannot but love it. 93
