• 1985 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva

  Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

  Cloudy. Reduced aromas of horse guard and little apple.
  With time iodized notes and red berries .
  Elegance and parsimony nose, a very slow delivery.
  On the palate with great acidity and good body still for a 30 years old wine. Overall a deli full of reminiscent of what a truly Ardanza should represent. Respect.
  
  Turbio. Reducido con aromas a cuadra y manzanita.
  Con tiempo notas yodadas y de frutillos rojos.
  Elegancia y parsimonia en nariz, una entrega muy lenta.
  En boca con mucha acidez todavía y bastante cuerpo para un vino de treinta años. Ante todo muy rica y recordando lo que un Ardanza debería representar. Un respeto.

• 2001 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva Especial

  Rockets and gunpowder. It is shown reduced. Notes of pastry and yeast. Perhaps lactic sour cream too. Dense and tasty in the mouth. At this stage I would not open any of my bottles.
  
  Cohetes y pólvora. Se muestra reducida. Notas de pastelería y levadura. Quizás también lácticas a nata agria. Denso y sabroso en boca. En esta fase no abriría ninguna de mis botellas.

• 2007 La Rioja Alta Rioja Viña Ardanza Reserva

  Here smells like cheese foils in portions, also cologne. A little mess.
  Somewhat unbalanced in the mouth with flavors of toffee and a density that falls by the throat. Although I am not convinced for accompany food it has great acidity indeed.
  
  Aquí huele a papeles de aluminio de queso en porciones, a colonia. Un poco desastre.
  Un tanto desequilibrada en boca con sabores a toffee y una densidad que se cae por la garganta. No me convence aunque para acompañar comida tiene una acidez estupenda.

• 1982 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904

  Initially smell like vomiting. With time and a good shake shows the typical aromas of marzipan, with prunes and pine nuts. All very Christmassy. Violet candy box. Fresh and delicious.
  The palate is very light and spacious. Easy companion to a Partagás vitola Julieta. I'd wish so...
  
  Inicialmente huele a devuelto. Con tiempo y un buen jarreo aparecen los típicos aromas a mazapán, a ciruelas pasas y a piñones. Todo muy navideño. Caja de caramelos de violetas. Fresco y delicioso.
  En boca es muy ligero y amplio. Fácil acompañante a un Partagás vitola Julieta.

• 1997 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904

  Lactic notes followed by sweet notes , too much?, vanilla and caramel. The mouth is a serious one but outside the typical characteristics of the 904. What a change from the last tasting. Still rich for your year.
  
  Notas lácticas seguidas de notas dulces, demasiado?, a vainilla y caramelo. La boca es sería pero fuera de la tipicidad del 904. Menudo cambió respecto a la última cata. Aún así rico para su año.

• 2005 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 904

  Iodized nose. Notes of nugget coffee, leaf snuff and spices like clove and pepper. The mouth is polishing yet. Slightly astringent. Hopefully age as it deserves.
  
  Nariz yodada. Notas a pepita de café, hoja de tabaco y especias como el clavo y la pimienta. La boca está por pulir. Un poco astringente. Ojalá envejezca como se merece.

• 1981 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 890

  Can of tomato gives way to caramel shy aroma, gorgeous mouth with acidity, tension and length. Long seconds of pleasure. I missed my Montecristo.
  
  Lata de tomate que deja paso a tímidas a caramelo, magnífico en boca con acidez, tensión y longitud. Largos segundos de placer. Añoré mis Montecristo.

• 1995 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 890

  Dominated by notes of pastry and seashells. Surprisingly very young in the mouth, to be done, because it needs more time in the bottle. Surely. Unhurried this time 'cause its tannins and acidity.
  
  Predominan las notas de pastelería y de conchas marinas. Sorprendentemente muy joven en boca, por hacerse, por necesitar más tiempo en botella. Sin prisas está vez vista su tanicidad y acidez.

• 2004 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva 890

  Still different. It seems the turning point. It hasn't the typical austere aspect of the historical series of 890. It is floral and aromatic. Unthinkable especially because 2004 vintage also should accompany such austerity. In mouth it is chocolaty. It's not bad but it is clearly different. At least to my taste. LRA enologist reaffirm his idea that there's no change, perhaps just a little more time in bottle.
  
  Sigue siendo diferente. Parece el punto de inflexión. No tiene el típico aspecto austero de la serie histórica de 890. Es floral y aromático. Algo impensable sobretodo porque la añada 2004 también debería acompañar esa austeridad. En boca está chocolateado. No es malo pero es claramente diferente. Al menos para mi gusto. Julio dice que no, que quizás le falté algo de botella.
