Dark crimson with duller rim; tobacco, red cherry, menthol, dusty, age notes, cedar; more muscular on the palate, licorice, currant; went with Northern Brunello.
Very dark core with dull garnet rim, showing some age; tobacco, Bordeaux, green pepper edge, funk, wet earth, chocolate; sturdier tannin, red currant, spicy; good, called 2000 Clerc Milon because it was balanced but the nose is always better than the palate.
Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina
See through rose with orange in rim; a bit funky on the nose, green quality, oak, vanilla, licorice, menthol, wild strawberry, cherry, char; sweeter on the palate, fresh berry, youthful; needs to resolve some of the sweet fruit and oak but this should be very good.
Very dark core with dull maroon rim; black pepper, tapenade, charred, granite?, good tannin, slightly wild, plum, wild berry, high toned, a bit warming from the higher alcohol but also higher acid; really surprised how this compared based on previous experience, this was totally different and it came from the same source; overall not a bad wine just not something I would ever think of as Ribera del Duero.
See through maroon, some sediment; sweet perfumed nose, sappy, strong fruit, medicinal, cherry, wild cherry, slight oak; strong acid, very fresh, firm tannin, lighter perspective and Burgundian or feminine; still too young but I really appreciate the fruit acid and smaller amount of new oak makes for a beautiful wine in the years to come; called '11 Vajra Ravera.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
See through purple; mineral evident on the nose, high toned, sour dark cherry, fresh, ripe strawberry, new, white rock, floral; sexy on the palate, good tension, mineral, plum, sour dark cherry, mineral; very young.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Opaque core with thin maroon rim, sediment; dark fruit, polished, plum, olive, big, dark, nutty; jammy fruit on the palate, raspberry, deep, complex, some brandy warmth, figgy; called monster CdP like '09 Deux Freres, this makes sense, not my preferred style of CdP but very nice; still young.
See through ruby with pale rim; sulfur is strong, roses, cinnamon; some firmness to the tannin, very red fruit, strong acid, tense, nice richness to the fruit; good but wait longer.
See through reddish orange, looks older than what it is; soft, aged sour cherry, some orange, subtle richness, spice; soft and caressing on the palate, still quite fresh, glycerin and sappiness, complete mouthfeel, good balance, seemed older to many of us but this wine is quite the opposite, more time would be best for this.
