  • Pale garnet with copper highlights, some bricking and a medium viscosity (13.5% ABV). On the nose this aged Pinot has medium (+) intensity aromas of cherries jubilee, strawberry compote, earth, rose, baking spice, vanilla thread, Goji berry, Rooibos tea and baked lingonberry. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity, medium body and medium (-) tannins that are fully integrated. The flavors are somewhat tart but I get cherry, strawberry, baking spice, rose and Rooibos. It's a rather stark difference from the power and intensity of the nose- I was hoping for a grand slam but the unripe nature of the fruit is a little underwhelming. The finish is long which makes up a point or two and the structure is still there for more aging yet I doubt the fruit will shine, perhaps more tertiary development is possible. This is the third bottle I have tasted of this wine in 12 years, it still does't quite live up to my desires- 89 points and for $55 it's a 3 star effort. Cellar at your own discretion.

  • As (or more) enjoyable than many recent bottles from my beloved Lafarge and d’Angerville. I love volnay and this bottle came across my way for a good price. It had a beautiful taste of cherries and handled the 2008 acid with perfection. I wish I bought more.

  • russk. CDC at Andrea's.She brought. So lovely, earthy, tertiary, reminding us why we do love Burgundy, and why we should. A WOTN for me and many of you.

  • Single blind tasting
Pale garnet color with mild bricking
Medium aromas of mushroom/ forest floor and turned earth with touch of cherry but not much fruit to speak of
Medium bodied with bright palate of fresh red fruit and dust - rather simple actually
Medium tannins and medium plus acidity with medium alcohol and average finish

After two days on the counter, this wine really improved. The aromas became more complex and with the red fruit becoming more integrated in what was initially one composed of secondary aromas. In contrast, the palate was no longer dominated by fruit, but had taken on fascinating soy/ umami tones.
Previously rated 90, now easily 92 after a couple day
Fascinating wine and based on these notes, could prob stand more time in the cellar

Of note, this appears to be the final vintage of this vineyard under this winemaker, as it has sold

Aromatics medium. Dried strawberry. Dry but still sweet herbs and moss. Umami. Feminine nose
Palate has a medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium -, fine grained on teeth and gums. Alcohol medium. Dusty cherry and strawberry. Overall, palate was muted compared with aromatics
Finish has medium length. Balance towards the acid
Dry glass notes of ferns and mushrooms
Drink now. Palate has not kept up with the aromatics to age anymore
