The theme was Madeira.
The host took care of all the wines.
For all participants it was a fully blind tasting.

• 2012 Paixão do Vinho Madeirense Primeira Paixão Merlot 82 Points

  Portugal, Madeira, Madeirense

  Not so very expressive red berries in the bouquet. On the palate dry with some cherries, red berries and herbs. Ok acidity. Not so very tasty. Ok and clean.

  In the bouquet oxidize impressions, sherry, tangerine, nuts, raisins and curry. On the palate currants, caramel , tangerine, orange peel , butterscotch. Full bodied, fine acidity and coffee. Extremely clean, well balanced and an enormous length.

  Caramel, burnt sugar, citrus, nuts and some resin in the bouquet. On the palate currants, sweetness, good acidity, sugared tangerine, dried fruits, some coconut and citrus. Clean and an enormous length.

  Beautiful and complex bouquet with caramel and raisins. On the palate caramel, raisins, dates, figs, oranges. Dried fruits. Very clean and a good balance between acidity and sweetness. Some bitterness as well. Beautiful and complex wine.

  Caramel, raisins and figs in the bouquet. On the palate a lot of caramel, raisins, currants. All in all a fairly light style with in fact quite tempting soft bitterness.

  Not so many notes. In the bouquet ripe dark forest fruits. On the palate blackberries and blueberries. Beautiful sweetness and acidity. Round tannin. Of course there is no hurry drinkin this beautiful port wine, but I was surprise how ready for drinking it is.
