Introduction

A vertical tasting of this important IGT, made in equal parts by Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc and Merlot, with a 1-2% of Shyraz.

We started from the more evoluted, complex, elegant vintages, to end up with the younger, still-to-get-balance recent vintages.

For the older vintages I indicated a 5* rating, rather than a numeric score.

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 1997 Fattoria Paradiso Mito Forlì IGT

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Forlì IGT

Vintage overall good, a bit hot summer.
    Vivid garnet red.
Very clean at nose: tertiary hints of leather and tobacco. Sandalwood and a distinct GINGER, but also dried fruits and flowers and sweet spices.
Dry, with a incredible integrity, after 21 years. Good acidity, a nice fruit and medium persistence. A bit astringent ending. ****-

    Good vintage

One of the best vintages of the new millenium.
    Vivid and intense ruby red.
Elegant and intense at nose: cooked red fruit (plum, currant). Liquorice and menthol. A light hint of white pepper.

  • 2007 Fattoria Paradiso Mito Forlì IGT

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Forlì IGT

    Difficult and rainy season.
    Intense ruby colour.
Less complex at nose, with a earthy note. Same varietal notes.
Lighter body and more simple wine, the tannins becoming too important. Will not get much better with time.

  • 2010 Fattoria Paradiso Mito Forlì IGT 85 Points

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Forlì IGT

Another difficult vintage, with a lot of rain.
    Full ruby red.
At nose a more evident vegetal component (grass, geranium leaves) and black fruits.
Better at taste, with a full sip of chewy, juicy fruit. Good acidity and a tannic, not unpleasent, ending.

  • 2012 Fattoria Paradiso Mito Forlì IGT 84 Points

    Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Forlì IGT

    Difficult vintage.
Ruby red. Shy, closed at nose, with varietal notes of chewy fruit and vegetal hints.
At taste, a nice crisp chewy, juicy cherry emerging in a medium body.
Acidity and alcohol prevailing on fruit. Still young, shlould be better, despite the ugly season.

Closing

The common feature of the 8 vintages we had the opportunity to taste, is acidity, permitting, and promising, a long life to this wine.
The taste is more driven by strenght and power, than elegance and roundness. Anyway a great wine, also in very difficult vintages, with a surprising longevity, especially for Romagna's wines
