Introduction

Semi annual dinner for the partners with YTD report. Lovely dinner done by Chef Jake Des Voignes, wine pairings by Ben Caldwell, CS

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2017 Fields Family Wines Vermentino DeLu Vineyard 89 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

A nicely executed clean white, mildly citrus, with a good acid structure. Lower alcohol and easy to drink, lovely with a fruit and arugula salad. There was a hint of age in the background, this is a wine for today not tomorrow.

  • 2018 Bokisch Vineyards Verdejo Clay Station 85 Points

USA, California, Central Valley, Borden Ranch

In general i like this wine but I would love to see a bit more freshness and acidity in it also a more focus of the varietal flavor. It is a mildly aromatic white, and it is pleasant but the sweetness of the corn broth overshadowed it easily.

  • 2018 Neyers Chardonnay 304 93 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

Boy is this an attractive Chardonnay. Pure fruit unadorned by oak, recalls Chablis but with a bit more fruit. Excellent. Paired with Halibut it was remarkable and was a hit at the table.

  • 2017 Markus Wine Co. Toura 90 Points

    USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

A very complex and attractive wine. Definite Touriga varietal flavors, very intense developed fruit, ample acidity, and a long elegant finish. I am not sure of the winemaking details but there is definite development without the distraction of oak. Almost a touch too acidic to have without food it was excellent with the ribeye. Great aging potential.

  • 2017 Heinz Eifel Riesling Kabinett 86 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

A nice but only mildly expressive Mosel. Well balanced and clean, slightly sweet with a clean finish. Good for the price point but I would spend a bit more and get a lot more.
