2 parcels averaging 45 y/o vines. Full nose with overt ripe red fruit. Rich and ripe on the palate but with good underlying freshness. Plenty of stuffing, though a bit short now though I'd expect this to lengthen out with more time given how well this wine has showed in 2015/2016/2017. 88-90
20% whole cluster. Full nose with bod red and black cherry and plenty of herbs. Medium concentration and weight. Similar to the village Volany, this showed a bit short and compact compared to prior vintages. Would expect it to soften/stretch. 88-91+
One barrel - 100% new oak, all magnums. A step up in density and concentration. Right now this is all red and black cherry with some toasty and spice. Again fairly firm and compact in the finish. 90-92 potential as this fleshes out.
12 barrels. Full nose with red and black cherry and most intense spice in the line up. Good concentration with mouth filling round fruit that has good finesse across the mid-palate and no heaviness. 90-93+ potential.
Full nose of rich red fruit. The palate has excellent concentration and depth. The most concentrated wine in the line up. Good smoke, spice and floral nuance potential. 91-93+
20% new oak and 20% whole cluster. The Pommard power and structure shows here vs. the Volnays. More black cherry in the fruit. Tannins feel more rigid. Will need lots of time to integrate and soften. 90-92+ potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
50% whole cluster and 40% new oak in the final assemblage. Really rich and concentrated. Shows smooth and polished as the tannins are suave in nature. Nice power/vigor in the finish. 90-93 potential.
From a bottle open ~24 hours. Candied red cherry on the nose. The palate has immediate plump, round fruit. Fresh throughout. Good depth and precision in the finish. 90-92+ potential.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
50% new oak. Perfumed nose with a medley of fruit, earth and spice. Smooth throughout with good concentration for the vintage. Similar to the 2018 barrel sample if a bit more restrained. 90-91
Blind PnP. Cleary very traditional wine-making a rustic in styling. This had good concentration of dark fruit with firm acidity and tannin. Old school through and through. Seemed about 20 years old and acidity took me to 1996.
Blind PnP. A second blind bottle that had some similarities in rustic and traditional styling but there was more fruit richness and sweetness here. A nice musk and spice in the aroma. Better balance than the harder 1996.
2018 Domaine Y. Clerget Meursault Chevalières
