With little to do a friend of mine up the road decided to treck down for an afternoon of wines during a snow storm...these were the wines we decided to pass the afternoon with.
I got to get Eamonn to save these for last...it was hard to follow this with anything.
This was tighter than a rock. It wound up being the next to last bottle that we actually drank.
strait from the wine fridge...
All in all it was a fun afternoon...with few "duds"
1997 Wegeler Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 93 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
In the glass this nectar was a lovely golden color. With a lovely nose that showcased slight notes of botrytis, apricots, peach, and a light hint of minerality. In the mouth the acidity was there but not obvious until served with food. Lingering flavors of apricots and peach along a lovely and long finish. This wine is still taking time to open up and might even deserve a 30 minute decant.
