I invited a few close friends over for dinner, which was followed by a group viewing of the DVD of "The Aristocrats".
Amuses bouche of smoked salmon with creme fraiche were served with Champagne
White Burgundy was a perfect accompaniment to parcels of monkfish wrapped in prosciutto, with wild mushrooms infused with truffle oil.
For the main course, I served a simply roasted saddle of lamb, accompanied by parsnip purée and a medley of baby vegetables (courgettes, carrots and turnips).
Dessert was a less than perfect blueberry soufflé - it didn't rise as much as it should have and was a little too sweet...
Despite that, a great evening... even the more prudish among my guests found themselves laughing at the outrageousness of The Aritocrats joke and its variations.
1995 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 96 Points
France, Champagne
This Champagne just keeps getting better. Drinking absolutely beautifully now, with the acidity, minerality, yeast and fruit all in perfect balance. Truly excellent.
