Blind. Pale mid straw. Slightly smokey chard nose. Quite light but with depth on the palate. Burgundian in style but there does
seem to be some alcohol coming through. Burgundian in style. Classy California? ***1/2

Blind. Similar pale colour and smokey nose. Almost identical to previous wine, possibly a little
riper. ***1/2

Blind. Pale straw. Similar to other wine in pair. Riesling nose. Hint of Vaseline but
not full-on petrol. A touch of RS. Good acidity. Firmly in Germany here. ***1/2

Strong nose of petrol and a touch of cork. Sweeter, riper and corked.

Blind. Burgundian nose. Dusty ruby to clean garnet. Both wines look similar. Deep red fruit, some earthiness and a foursquare surliness too **(*)

Blind. Old brown to full garnet. Rioja nose. Burg shape bottle. A little more evolved and mushroomy than the other of the pair. A touch musty on the finish but a very nice, smooth wine. Long. ****

Blind. More of a Nebbiolo nose here. Seems younger but apparently two years older. Really smooth and lovely with typical Italian acidity. ****1/2

Blind. Red into a slight purple. Young, rich, smooth. Smokey, rich, lush, sense fruit and lovely weight. Deep and long. Complex. This really stands out. Multidimensional. Gorgeous without being overdone/slutty. A hint of rusticity in there suggesting it's not quite top tier but this is really very good. *****

Blind. Older. Seems a slightly green-fruited bordeaux vintage. Left bank. Quite understated and a little lean but refreshing cf it's partner. Good. ***1/2

Blind. Seems an older and less opulent vintage than the other in the pair but well and truly corked.

Blind. Light purple. Horsey. Really quite bretty. Tight, quite linear. Obviously far too young but there's lots of wine here. **(**)

Blind. Sweet oak juice and sweet fruit nose. Palate is grim. Really drying tannins, far to drying for the fruit surely? No, this is truely unpleasant. No idea whether it will improve with age but I won't be betting on it. Yuck. Nul points.

Blind. This is better. Lovely maturing C9 nose. Sweet fruit and some interest. A slightly red-fruited attack, good weight and density. Still young. A touch of something drying on the finish. ***1/2
