  Light amber. Black cherry fruit, moderate dosage, fairly powerful.

• 2007 Domaine Pinson Frères Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

  Light. Lean, classic lemon flavors with good minerality. Young and fresh, excellent drive. Very consistent with our experience with this a year ago-on a very enjoyable plateau.

  Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

  Still light yellow. Moderate petrol. Light and just off dry, fresh guava/papaya fruit. Old style wine (in its weightlessness and low sugar) drinking at peak.

• 2002 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

  Talk about penetrating-the aroma here leaped up my nostrils directly into the olfactory center. Pungent sour cherry. Light and tight to begin with-licorice, blackberry, and soil. Then it added just a bit of flesh and a glimpse of sweetness. Very Angerville in its uncompromising, pure style. Will benefit from more time in bottle.

• 2002 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

  Next to the Angerville, this immediately struck me as sexier, more open, and dressed up with some wood. The fruit here is redder too, but with air, it also began to show some soil and more brambly, Savigny-like fruit. Basically softer, more approachable style although this is not lacking in acidity. Amazing that these bottles came from the same vintage and commune.

• 2000 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée

  France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

  Magnum. Fairly dark. Some brett here giving an animal fur tone to accompany the fruit. Lush but balanced. Licorice and spicy raspberry fruit come to the fore over time. Great showing. Youthful from this format.

• 1999 Château Suduiraut

  France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

  Full yellow. Apricot, orange, and caramel. Delightful, lighter, moderately sweet no/low botrytis style of Sauternes with wonderful acidity. I was really surprised and impressed by the quality here thinking about the few other '99 Sauternes I've had.
