Flight 2 - The 2009's (7 Notes)

All wines were served Single blind. The Lapierre was transfered to another bottle due to the wax and there is some question if this may have had an impact on the wine as it was tasted recently and did not present in such an unstable manner.

  • 2005 Scott Harvey Zinfandel Old Vine Reserve 88 Points

USA, California, Sierra Foothills, Amador County

Not as exciting as the last bottle...perhaps this is best in it's youth....still exciting, just not at the same level as it was a few years ago...

  • 2005 Bartlett Blueberry Winemaker's Reserve 93 Points

    USA, Maine

    Color: ruby
Smell: Clove, spice, orange rind, blue & black fruit, flint, and lilac notes.
Taste: A melange of bright red fruits, Kiwi, cinamon, minerals, and tangerine.
Overall: At 11.5% it is food friendly, and easy to consume by myself...I should say that I am clearly biased with these wines as I'm friend's with the owner of the winery...but there are few wines that are as compelling to me as this or his Reserve Pear.

  • 1981 Chateau Musar 98 Points

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

    Color: Brick ruby/amber
Smell: earth, cranberries, potpori, leather, cigar box, red fruits, and a seamless transition between each component that makes it difficult to pin down any one specific flavor for minutes.
Taste: raspberries, cherries, tobacco, leather, struck match and hints of match stick, portabella mushrooms,
Overall: Classic...and hard to put to words...it's something that has to be experienced to understand...words simply do not seem to do a wine like this justice. The scents and flavors in this wine seem to transition just before acknowledgment and it lingers on the palate effertlessly in an almost weightless presence.
