Thanksgiving with the Family @ Equinox (Washington, DC). Nose: Amazing nose of petrol, spice, pears. Very creamy. Great acid and verve almost electric. Brown spices. Classic Wurzgarten nose. Palate: Very creamy & spicy. Great mouthfeel. Somewhat softened. Plush. Perfect combo of sweet & acid - hits the salivary glands just right. Great finish with good acid and sweetness. Everything I want in a Riesling. One of my favorite wines in many vintages. Nose: 6/6, Palate: 5/6, Finish: 5/6, Je ne sais quoi (wild card): 2/2 = 18/20 = 96/100

  • 1991 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Thanksgiving dinner w the family at Equinox (Washington, DC) - 11/25/10. Nose: Nice but tight nose bright red fruit stemmy, old school. Palate: Very tight. Showing almost nothing. We totally misjudged this - should have opened it the day before. Wasn't able to try it later for a solid formal note. Luckily we have plenty more. From our parcel, this wine needs many many more years to come around. Hold. Judgment deferred.
