France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Very mature and oxidized. Took on various characteristics over an hour with mixed reviews from the tasters. First time trying this vintage so not sure if this is bottle specific.
Gorgeous nose. Fresh citrus fruits and wet stones with just the right amount of oak. On the palate an interesting balance of supple forward fruit and refined, elegant transparency. Lovely wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Dark, meaty nose with a good amount of oak. The palate was a bit closed however lots of dark, earthy Pinot fruit wrapped in dusty tannins , fresh-medium bodied acidity. This should be very nice with some age.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Sappy red fruit, wet earth, leather and tons of minerality on the nose. Ripe fruit, dusty tannins with the typical acidity from this vintage on the finish. A great example of an elegantly made 96 Chambertin. This particular bottle was much fresher than the previous 3 sampled over the last 18 months.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
Herbaceous, mushroom, forest floor nose. Moderate bricking. Spiced, slightly tart red fruits on the palate. The balance between tannins and acidity were a little off kilter giving it a sightly dry finish. Very good none the less.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Super rich black fruit, floral, spices, smoke and dark cocoa on the nose. The palate was huge, sappy and simply delicious. A mix of sweet black cherries and dark plums. Fresh acidity with solid tannins that should integrate nicely in years to come. Hits on all cylinders.
