Tasting at winery. Red cherry on nose, some faint florals. Red fruit also on palate but hidden behind tannins for now. Structure might be a bit harsh for the level and quality of fruit this vintage, but I'd give this another couple of years to integrate before trying again.

Tasting at winery. Bright red fruit on nose with some nice floral fragrance. Flavor of strawberry with some nice spice traces. Drinking well now, should be a fun glass of wine between now and 2006 or 2007.

Tasting at winery. Red cherry on nose with some moderate baking spice. Red and black cherry on palate with nicely balanced, sweet tannins. Seems lighter acidity, making it quite accessible now and probably a good vintage to drink in the next few years.

Tasting at winery. Dark fruit on nose - black cherry and blackberry. Some spice aromatics at end. Fruit on palate even comes across as a bit darker, showing some plum and well. Intense, powerful fruit with lots of tannins that need a little more time to integrate. I'd hold this to 2005 or later and have high hopes the primary fruit will still be great.

Barrel tasting at winery. Fresh, bright fruit on nose with good spice. Subtle flavors, very approachable now. surprisingly simple and short on the end. I've never tried a Patty Green Hirsch before, but I'm generally a fan of the vineyard. 85-87 pts.

Barrel tasting at winery. Red and black fruit on nose with very sexy florals and spice. Good velvety texture. Shows good old vine characteristic. Bit of new oak to resolve, hold to 2006 or so. My favorite of the Patty Green barrel tasting lineup today. 91-94 points.

Barrel tasting at winery. Very dark fruit, mostly blackberry, then even some blueberry. Not much floral, ok spice, good acidity. Needs time, 2006 or later but I preferred some of the other Patty Green cuvees today for overall balance and expression of Pinot Noir fruit.

Barrel tasting at winery. Dark fruit on nose and palate, some spice emerged but it needed to be coaxed out. Highly structured fruit tannins. 87-90 pts.

Barrel tasting at winery. Nice black fruit on nose with very good spice and floral attributes. Very balanced fruit on palate, showing more charming than blockbuster traits, which bodes well for this becoming an elegant styled Pinot Noir. Will most likely drink very nicely young. Would have liked a bit more length at end. 88-92 pts.

Tasting at winery. Fruit forward with mostly red cherry on nose and palate. Good spice on nose. Would have expected a bit more density and spice on palate.

Tasting at winery's Open House. Rich fruit on nose with good spice in background. Red and black fruit that are consistent from start tomiddle to finish. Good spice throughout, plus long finish. Already almost 4 years from harvest, this is still clearly on the ascent with very fine raw material and potential.

Bottle and barrel tasting with Dick Shea. Starts with that rich New world dollop of butter on both the nose and palate, but some lemon, acidity and minerality show up closer to the finish. Not very long finish, but nice.

Barrel tasting with Dick Shea. Not one of my favorites today. Fruit somewhat too dark, seemingly mostly blackberry and darker. Hard to judge a wine that has just finished malo, but I found it surprisingly closed with little spice for now.

Bottle and barrel tasting with Dick Shea. Funky nose, perhaps a bit reductive. Bright intense fruit - strawberry and raspberry - but a bit harsh for right now. Perhaps this was just bottled? I didn't ask.

Tasting at winery. Nice strawberry elements on the nose and palate, supported by some light spice. Short finish for now, this will probably be a younger drinking Elizabeth's Reserve than some of the other recent vintages.

Barrel tasting at winery. Big blacker fruit show some ripeness. Flavors of plum, black cherry with cocoa and spice traces on finish. Very concentrated. Intended as a wine to drink young, and it succeeded in that goal.

Barrel tasting at winery. Strawberry and red cherry on nose, continuing on to the palate. Very seamless. Flavors are concentrated but not overripe. Very long finish shows shows big, meaty spice character, almost in a Gevrey type of way. This wine can last a long time with its good balance of fruit, silky tannins and acid. Very impressive.

Tasting at winery. Fresh, bright fruit on nose. Plenty of wild strawberry and red cherry come out all the way through. Acidity and tannins are already nicely integrated. Acidity gives nice lift and length.

Tasting at winery. More subtle than prior versions of Evolution but that also seems to make the heat a bit more apparent. Seems to show a bit less Riesling than I recall from last time, perhaps a bit more Pinot Gris. Quite short.

Tasting at winery. Floral nose with good red fruit from start to finish. Concentrated fruit with good intensity and spice, some nice pepper on finish. This should be quite nice if it picks up some weight and depth as it evolves. I'd hold for another couple of years.

Tasting at winery open house. Lots of great black cherry and sweet baking spice aromas. Long evolving flavors, well complemented and balanced by very good structure. A bit of prominent new oak, this will integrate nicely by 2005 and should drink really well to at least 2011 or 2012.

Tasting. Overly tannic and overoaked for the vintage. Fruit is well hidden and it's not clear the fundamental raw materials will outlast the wine's structure. If I owned any, I would wait for 2-3 more years to see if it gets interesting .

Tasting at winery. Bright red fruit on the nose - good strawberry and red cherry. Palate shows the fruit as rather lean and stuck behind the wine's structure for now. Good raw materials on the fruit, good upside potential for this wine as it balances.

Tasting at winery. Floral aromatics and delicate flavors with lots of charm and nuance. There's not much power here so I'm sure this won't be most people's favorite Pinot Noir...but this is an elegant Pinot Noir that almost in the B******ian style.
