Standard Wine Ark tasting with three wineries - Moorooduc, Head Wines and Patrick of Coonawarra. New bloke presenting - Gavin Lennard. He seems to have forgotten to say every wine is perfect...
Mornington Peninsular wine maker specialising in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Unfortunately they don't really work for me.
Alex Head is now based in the Barossa where he buys in grapes and makes his own wine. I first met him when he was working at the Ultimo Wine Centre bottle shop. He is experimenting with stalks and whole bunch fermentation. All of the wines here are very young.
I know nothing about Patrick of Coonawarra other than, rather obviously, they are from Coonawarra.
An okay tasting. Nothing really shone but I'd like to stick three bottles each of the Head Wine Contrarian and Blonde into the cellar to see how they age.
2009 Moorooduc Estate Chardonnay Robinson Vineyard
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Mornington Peninsula
Nose: Stone fruit and citrus peel
Mouth: Stone fruit and apples, fresh acidity, clean but simple. If there is oak it is very discreet and I am not picking up any malolactic

Nose: butter, stone fruit, gooseberry, some oak and slight tropical fruit hints
Mouth: butter and oak dominate, also slightly acrid. Tastes over-engineered and lacks fruit.
