sweet and jammy with notes of cedar and leather. rich and long. somewhat overwhelmed by the stunning L'Eglise but probably more long lasting. more open after an hour of so with alluring notes of chocolate and black fruits.
explosively sexy nose of mocha, chocolate and jammy cherry fruit. smooth and velvety, although it didn't hold up in the glass as well as the left banks. still, and absolute stunner.
initially a little tight and unyielding, with notes of graphite and lead pencil. great structure and concentration. opened up a bit more with second pour becoming sweeter and more fragrant, but still got blown away by the Mouton.
mind-blowingly good right from the start. incredible aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet earth, tobacco and coffee. wonderful concentration and intensity. perfect in every sense.
1961 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve 88 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
light faded colour. sweet and port-like, slightly oxidized. still some fruit on palate although it's more for academic and rarity value.
