Introduction

A nice showing of wines with the Resalte winning wine of the night and almost a sure wine of the year for me. I hope to see this on WTSO soon.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2003 Château Lascombes 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Drinking well after an hour decant. Raspberry, spice, cigar and floral notes. Good structure and medium tannins. Should age another decade.

  • 2000 Bodegas Resalte de Peñafiel Ribera del Duero Gran Resalte 94 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Almost a done deal on wine of the year. The wine got an hour decant and I did a Vinturi on it. It was good but after an hour in the bottle it was singing. Cherry, raspberry, spice, wood and minerals come together to create a balance and intense offering. Medium to long finish and complex. For $45 a bottle it is a great value. My advice on this wine is to decant an hour and see it evolve over the course of the night. I don't recommend this on day 2 as it was not as good. Drink now.

  • 2004 Giovanni Manzone Barolo Bricat 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

The color is really light. Spice, wood, raspberry and subtle floral notes. This is a delicate wine but flavorful. Tannins are soft and it is made to drink now. One hour decant and away you go. Later in the night it was less of a wine so don't save to day 2.

  • 2004 White Oak Vineyards & Winery Syrah 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Not bad but a little past peak. Cherry, spice, minerals and coffee. Not as concentrated as the last few bottles. No decant needed on this wine at this stage. Drink now.

  • 2002 Henry's Drive Shiraz Reserve 94 Points

Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Padthaway

The biggest change from day one to day two all year. On day one it showed a ton of eucalyptuses along with blueberries, under brush, spice and minerals. A real big wine to say the least. Not real balanced but enjoyable. 91-92.

Day two is Wow! Balanced with licorice, coffee, floral, white pepper and light fruits. Good weight to the wine and medium finish. This wine needs a good six hour decant or try today and enjoy more tomorrow.

  • 2007 Double Diamond (Schrader) Cabernet Sauvignon Bomber X 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

A really nice wine for the money. Second time trying this and as good as the first. Decanted 1.5 hours and Vinturi (2 times). Cherry, plum, blueberries and oak. The palate shows oak but it is well integrated. Still medium tannins and lengthy finish. Should drink well for five plus years.
