Introduction

All wines but the champagne and cava were decanted between 20 min for the Artadi and plus 2 hours for the Mogador.
We paired the wines with 6 dishes.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2000 Artadi Rioja Grandes Añadas 90 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja

Dark color, garnet rim. A bit shy on nose, as probably didn't have enough aireation time. Some subtle ripe black fruit, cinnamon. On palate is medium bodied, smooth, velvety, elegant, some bitterness, still quite acidity, medium finish. Palate, though thin, is good. A wine that didn't thrill at all, but a good example of a good producer getting an acceptable wine in a bad vintage. On the downhill (90-91).

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2005 Finca Allende Rioja Calvario 92 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Decanted. Very dark cherry color, barely rim. Medium intensity on nose, red fresh fruit, spice. Medium bodied on palate, fresh, plenty of acidity, mouth coating, sweet tannins that leave a pleasant and long finish. This is really good and has plenty of life left. Probably the best of the lunch with the 04 Mogador (91-92).

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 2008 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Flor de Pingus 91 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Decanted for about 2 hours. A total infanticide. Dark color, young. Smoky nose, ripe black fruit, plum, milky aromas. On palate it's medium to full bodied, dry, some astringency, present tannins, layers of mature fruit, long finish. At this stage it's still too monolithic to enjoy, way too young. (90-91)

Flight 6 (1 Note)

  • 2004 Clos Mogador Priorat 92 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

Decanted for 3 hours. Dark dark color! Expressive nose that improves over time. Ripe black compote fruit on nose, spices, black pepper, forrest floor, varnishes. On palate it's strong, full bodied, strong tannins, finish is long with red fresh fruit and smokey flavours. (91-92).
