Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2000 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

Mature wine. Red fruit nose, soft, earthy tones. Palate also red fruit, good acidity, minerals, a bit coarse at the end. Palate is a bit light and the finish a bit short, but all in all this is drinking wonderfull with a very own personality. From very old vines.

  • 2001 Jean-Jacques Confuron Clos Vougeot 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

Nose of red berries and some dark fruit. Palate very smooth and silky, again red and dark fruit, a bit in the background but very distinguished. Some plum and spices. Long finish. Not a blockbuster but a lovely balanced understated style, that I recognize in more Clos Vougeot's and which I appreciate very much.

Same notes as four months ago, however nose much more fragrant now showing its Chambolle pedigree.

  • 2005 Patrice Rion Charmes-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

On the nose lots of coffee and black fruit, giving the wine a very young appearance. Palate full bodied, sweet, plums and dark fruit, clear tannins that are nicely rounded, long finish. After some decanting this all mellowed out a bit and the wine became very impressive to me with a great mouthfeel. Needs still some years for full integration of the oak.
