  • 5th of 6, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level, tad less vigour perhaps but otherwise as noted in August 18, marginally finer than impressive JJC Boudots 03 on same night, no rush but probably little upside. F+ (18).

  • 4th of 6, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - this has come together very nicely since my last bottle in April 2017 (HB 98 and 66 were tough acts to follow) with more weight than many 01s with maybe a touch of Musigny's grace and harmony blown over the road, now singing but no rush. F+ (18)…..proper Grand Cru quality so often absent from Clos Vougeot offerings!

  • 3rd of 6, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, previous notes fine, garnet, not too dense, some development; needed coaxing but increasingly attractive, sour cherry, hint of strawberry, earth notes; medium, long, persistent, nice balance, sweet powerful surprisingly nuanced core which opened up nicely after an hour, barely ready and needs at least an hour in decanter. At least F (17.5).

  • Leflaive vertikal: (Blind) Magnum. Klar, dyp rød med lys kant. Søt nese med mørke bringebær, jordbær, sukkerroer og kokos. Klar frukt med fin modning og et lett, sursøtt preg. Fin syre. Milde, men tørrende tanniner i finish. Lett bitter avslutning.

  • Leiden Valentine Tasting: Nose of red berries and some dark fruit. Palate very smooth and silky, again red and dark fruit, a bit in the background but very distinguished. Some plum and spices. Long finish. Not a blockbuster but a lovely balanced understated style, that I recognize in more Clos Vougeot's and which I appreciate very much.
