Flight 1 - Pre-2003 Chablis (7 Notes)

Flight 2 - Chablis with Dinner (2 Notes)

  • 1999 Verget Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Flawed

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Tasted blind. I don't know what was going on with this wine. I will venture it had some unidentified flaw. Nobody would have identified this as Burgundy or even Chardonnay if tasted double blind. I thought it had a cream soda character, others thought it more like root beer. While not overly advanced, it showed a sweet madeirizing character.

  • 1996 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Tasted blind. Apple and pear aromas, similar but slightly less expressive and fresh on palate. Good concentration. At its peak.

Flight 3 - Chablis 2004 and Younger (5 Notes)

Flight 4 - Sweet Wine (3 Notes)

  • 2001 Williams Selyem Gewürztraminer Late Harvest Vista Verde Vineyard 92 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, San Benito County

Tasted double blind. Ripe, sweet aromas. similar on palate with good spice, but I was very surprised to see this was Gewürztraminer when unveiled...it didn't really show that spice! Very elegant and balanced. When tasted blind, I thought this most likely from Alsace. Impressive.

  • 2001 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Eiswein 'Junior' 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Tasted blind. Moderate level of sweetness. Lemon oil, lemon peel aromas. Similar on palate with some orange peel as well. Very charming and easy to enjoy, slightly lost in this flight of much sweeter wines.

  • 2001 Château Doisy-Védrines 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Tasted double blind. Fairly clearly Sauternes, but in an extreme slightly cloying manner. Very ripe aromas, also quite caramelized on nose and palate. Peach, nuts, baking spice. I was very surprised to see this was from 2001, with it not showing the elegance I normally find in the vintage.
