Willamette Valley, OR

Introduction

This trip was a wine focused trip as I wanted to do a lot more tasting than I had on previous visits. I knew this would be the time of the year that would also have the least amount of tourists, so I could get to places faster and not have to deal with too many people.

Flight 1 - Vidon (7 Notes)

  • 2009 Vidon Pinot Noir 3 Clones 88 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains

nose: Certainly shows off some of the warmth of the vintage with some upfront tones of dark red fruits, dark berries, and some spice tones as well.

taste: There is good balance to the fuller body and it does have some lower acidity. It isn't flabby and has some flesh to it with tones of dark red cherries, dark berries, dark red fruits and some spices.

overall: This was a nice pinot that is easier drinking. While it has lower acidity, it isn't flabby but should be drunk earlier rather than later.

Closing

I felt like I could do more, but the fog was very thick and I didn't want to mess up my rental car. There were some new wineries for me, which added in a nice new wrinkle. On the whole, this was a nice cross section of wines in the northern part of the Willamette.
