Flight 1 - Bubbly (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Leroux Whites (4 Notes)

  • 2010 Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

Lemony scents with some oak notes. Full bodied and very smooth feel for generic Bourgogne. Good acidity.

  • 2010 Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses Blanc

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses

Lactic nose with minimal sulfur. Creamy, some wood, lower toned fruit, long chalky finish. Damn good for a village Auxey.

  • 2010 Benjamin Leroux Puligny-Montrachet

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

Light color. Beautiful steely, floral nose without a trace of wood. Delicate, wonderful texture, well etched lime fruit, zesty acidity. For me, this was far and away the classiest of the whites, outstripping the Premier Cru Chassagne which followed. Gorgeous and wonderfully site specific. Much better than when tasted 6 months ago and quite an accomplishment for village wine. I was utterly seduced by this wine, and I am not usually a sucker for Puligny.

  • 2010 Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

Yes, it is deeper, richer and fuller than the last wine, but more wood is apparent, and it is just not as fine and exciting in the mouth as the village Puligny.

Flight 3 - Giroud Reds (3 Notes)

  • 2010 Camille Giroud Pinot Noir Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Medium to light red. Menthol and tart red fruit. Light, piquant, a bit briary with sound acidity. Good Bourgogne.

  • 2010 Camille Giroud Gevrey-Chambertin

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

Quite deep ruby. Attractive aromatics of black cherry and soil. Medium weight with real presence and flesh for a village Gevrey. Ripe but not overdone red fruit and the earth is reprised. Fine acidity. OK, not the most precise or earthy example, but the fruit is deep and vibrant, and the balance is terrific for early approachability or 5 years of aging.

  • 2010 Camille Giroud Charmes-Chambertin

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Slightly lighter than the village Gevrey. More sinuous, complex aromatics that include red fruit but also some higher tones. Lacier and lighter in the mouth. Elegant feel with an even better interplay of fruit and soil in a prototypical Gevrey way. No wood to speak of. Very open right now, but I imagine this will close soon. A very fine rendition of a lighter style Gevrey Grand Cru, truly very pretty wine.
