France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Started mostly with nutty character and reduced mushrooms. This stayed very mature and advanced with more air , but got more interesting with hints of Meyer lemon and ripe apple. Dark and evolved.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Probably slightly corked, this was muted and showing a bitter edge on finish. Open 4 +hours before served, this didn't seem quite right when first opened and never got quite right.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Black cherry and blackberry with moderate ripeness but lots of power to start. Great spice on both nose and palate, lots of intensity in every way. Long and very well textured. Just entering its peak drinking window, really impressive.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Really sensational 1997. Bright red fruit with no sense of overripe fruit. Very good spice, very impressive balance and length. If served blind, none of us would have thought this from 1997, we thought more like the forward/ balanced 1998 or 2000 vintages. Very impressive.
Tough wine to assess today. This was open and decanted almost 10 hours before served tonight. Very exciting floral aromatic start with powerful red fruit and meaty spice. Palate also started with rich fruit , but then shortened and came across as less interesting or complex in the middle. So just at an awkward point, most likely?
Open several hours before serving. Very alluring aromatic start with lots of well cooked mushrooms, intense black fruit, cigar box. Slightly less interesting on palate with moderate fruit and earthy flavors, moderate length and intensity.
Worked wonderfully mid-dinner with the foie gras course, again at the end with dessert. Very impressive power, sweetness and elegance with an equally impressive length.
1996 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Brut Rosé 93 Points
France, Champagne
Lots of ripe and robust apple with a hint of strawberry all the way from beginning to end. Very fresh vs many 1996s at this stage.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Lots of ripe apple and pear with a rich, unctuous texture and hints of spice. Rich and very forward, very fun, but a little simple on finish.
