Colour: Golden yellow, nearly amber in colour Nose: Anis, wax, saffron, sea salt and acacias honey mixed with a very present sherry undertone. A bit one one-dimensional. Palate: Medium- to full bodied, low to medium acidity with a bit of spice. Feels a bit soapy and one-dimensional. A bit of heat on the back-end.
Colour: Opaque garnet Nose: Red sour-cherry & strawberry mixed with red meat, lovage, wet hay and leather. Palate: A LOT of acidity first which was a bit overhelming in the beginning. With some time in the glass it was getting better. Tannins still there, but lack of lenght and very dry finish. Medium-bodied.
Colour: Very youthful dark red colour. Nose: A mix of dark & red fruit mixed with aromas of iron, red meat, cedar, black pepper and a bit of cow stable. Getting a sweet undertone with some time in the glass. Palate: Medium bodied with a good acidity and enough power & tension. Well structured, tannins still left. Again a pepper note.
A very well made Coras which was for me a little bit the star of this tasting, especially at this price point compared to Chave or Jaboulet.
Colour: Ruby colour with brownish rims. Nose: Interesting and very complex nose with aromas of bacon fat, iron, red cherry, cold smoke alongside lovage, iodine, paprika all seasond with a big portion black pepper. Palate: A medium bodied, vibrating wine where the fruit ist still present while the tannins are completely integrated. Some oak flavors as well. Long finish.
Colour: More youthful in colour than his brother "Moulin" Nose: Tight nose, more withdrawn than the other Guigal. Dark & dried red fruit mixed with a bit of cinnamon, date and some paprika. Bit of pepper as well. Palate: Very pleasant palate. Good mix of fruit, oak, acidity, power and lenght.
Colour: Brick red with browinish rim Nose: Red & black currant mixed with a "stable" ton, spices, iron, black pepper, olive, paprika and a hint of roasted meat alongside an earthy component. Smells still so young. Lovely nose. Palate: Wonderful balanced, mineral driven Hermitage with a lively acidity. After over twenty years in bottle, the tannins are fully integrated into the wine. Again red currant mixed with a blood, iron component. Super elegant with a great lenght. Wow.
