Another sit down tasting and dinner for $65 with Wayne from wine-ark...this time with Eden Road - I have a bottle of the 09 Shiraz so I was interested in seeing the rest of their range after trying them in 2011.
worked well - fresh and clean tasting dish that worked particularly well with the Courabrya (which is from a higher, cooler site, made in a less interventionist style) and not so well with the Maragle (lower site, malolactic, oak).
very pleasant - the wasabi peas were crushed carefully and offered more texture than taste. The wines went okay with this dish - the Tumbarumba is made from the best stuff that wasn't made into the Courabrya and Maragle and then whatever is left is in the Long Road. The winemakers honesty and lack of candour was almost as refreshing as the Courabrya or the Tumbarumba Chardonnays.
Stonking stuff. Big lump of meat and superb shiraz material . Both of these wines matched this very well.
The washed rind was from a little producer in Victoria - http://www.lartisancheese.com.au/our-cheese.html - it was nice enough but I'd have preferred something either harder or creamier.
That 1st Chardonnay was very good - white of the night so to speak - followed by the Tumbarumba. The Canberra Shiraz was very good as well.
2013 Eden Road Chardonnay Courabyra
Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Tumbarumba
Aromas of lemon, citrus, lemon and lime peel, slight wet stone/mineral note, touches of lemon curd as well…and, with time, slight peach notes. In the mouth there flavours of lemon citrus, juicy, medium plus acid, zesty, tangy, long, youthful, very long in fact, slight alcohol warmth but very good.

2013 Eden Road Chardonnay Maragle
Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Tumbarumba
Aromas of toast, slight butter, toasted nuts (almonds?) over smoke and very muted fruit - hints of grapefruit and peach, floral top notes. In the mouth oak water dominates grapefruit, spice, butter…mid palate grip, slight drying quality, alcohol warmth. Hmm. Bit disjointed and young but still has a long finish that carries very low intensity fruit.
