Mineral wine with just the right mix of sour, dark fruit and ripe blueberries. More closed on the nose than Dolcetto. A compelling wine to enjoy with food or solo for early drinking.
Soft and evolved already, with secondary aromas of baked fruit cobbler, tobacco. The natural acidity is buttressed by the rich fruit. Dark cherries, hits of tar. Aromatic and complex now. Will improve.
More evolved and feminine than '04 La Morra, yet more tannic. Cranberries and orange rind with tinge of pine needle aroma. Reminiscent of Aldo Conterno's Cicala, with La Morra's dark cherries profile being akin to Colonello.
Strong oak on the nose. Brooding mouth feel, with the most complex fruit of these young baroli. Woody and flowery, with sparkling menthol. Very compelling palate, but cannot get past the oak aromatics.
Very evolved and complex. Taste of sap, carnation, cedar, backed by evolved jammy fruit. Hint of soy. A very compelling wine from a less than glamorous vintage.
Flowery nose, almost sangio like aromas of perfumed earth and olive trees. Rich, caressing fruit, primary, sweet and plenty of it. Not a hint of drying out. More playful and multi-dimensional than '97 La Morra.
Just an amazing nose of flowers, tar, roses -- delicate and wonderfully integrated bouquet. The fruit is just as lively as '98, long and plentiful. Caressing mouth feel. great balance. Flowery and sophisticated. What a treat!

2013 Elio Altare Dolcetto d'Alba
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
Aromatic nose of forest red berries and earth. Balanced wine with little if any oak; viscous, with plenty of sweetness and herbs, never coy.
