Beautifully cellared in a cold cellar. This bottle was vibrant and fresh, but also displayed delicious botle age character. Long and complex but with verve.
Mature, soft and melony. Velvet texture, long finish. Caramel notes with subtle oak handling. A beautiful wine driven by fruit and bottle age nuance. Rich and full bodied. Blind, this would be tough to pick as a chablis. I might have gone for an older Puligny, for instance. Ready to drink.
Given as a gift a year earlier, this NV wine (bought in 2013) tasted like a wine with quite a bit of age on it. As a drink this is vinous with tangy acids and a clean finish but apart from this and compared with comparably priced vitis vinifera wines, this is certainly below average.
Tased after the Meyer Farms "Jana" Norton NV, this came across as significantly more complex with far more vibrant fruit. The wine also has more extensive oak treatment. Like the Meyer Farms, this wine also has a tangy juicy fruit quality that is certainly vinous. The oak feels a little over-done for the fruit quality, to my tastes, but this is not bad.
Rather Napa cult wine in style. High alcohol, ripe and opulent fruit - very high toned with noticeable VA. In the mouth, quite developed and very tannic. Distinct green bell pepper notes intermingle with the high toned and ripe fruit quality. It is in no way drying out but it seems clear to me that the fruit will not outlast the tannins. Powerful and concentrated, this is outstanding but is not at all in the class of the Harlan 1997, drunk the night before. The Harlan was by far the more refined, plush, complicated and less evolved wine. Excellent and very new world but not a world beater, by any stretch of the imagination.
