At, or slightly past its peak, certainly very mature. This is rich and ripe, with superb oak nuance, but also has a nice crisp acidity which keeps things focused. Multi-dimensional, cloves, a touch of banana and pineapple lump (a candy), ripe pear, very vanilla. Lovely wine. But drink up….

Dense, tannic, and modern. Opulent fruit, and a nose that references balsamic vinegar, mushrooms, green olives, cedar, and plums. Currently in a monolithic stage of development. Impressive for its power and very firm structure. This is absolutely built for the long hall, although my impression is that it will always remain tannic. Feels like new world fruit with an almost Barolo level of drying tannins. I will give this at least five years to see how the wine develops. Certainly outstanding, but not ready, and feels like an unusual amalgamation of styles. 93+

Really well. Balanced, dry, subtle oak, mealy, oats. Touch of clove, touch of fennel. A refined texture is a particular nice aspect of this wine. Refined and delivers at its price point.

1/30/2024 6:12:00 PM - Marc. Just read your note on '90 P Togni. Have 6 -bought here on release (San Francisco).
Been drinking '84,5,6, and 90's cabs, rhône's (do make old bones btw), etc. All in Great condition. Any harm in waiting in your view?
Best,
allan
9/8/2023 12:38:00 PM - Marc! I'm so glad that my greetings made their way to you, through Jono!! I hope you're also drinking well these days, I look forward to when we can share a bottle or two together sometime! Come visit Indiana haha!
7/27/2017 9:20:00 PM - Hi Chatters! I've actually moved down to Wanaka! But the wine shops that I like the most are Wine Direct 19 Station Road
Penrose, Auckland or 9 St Georges Bay Rd
Parnell, Auckland. The other shop is Caros. They are located at 2/114 St Georges Bay Rd, Parnell (near to the Parnell shop of Wine Direct).... Hope you have a great time, and look me up if you are ever in Central Otago. Cheers, Marc
7/27/2017 9:02:00 PM - Hi Marc, sorry to bother you but I'd rather go to an expert than google...I'm going to be in Auckland next weekend and was hoping you wouldn't mind suggesting a good bottle store to pick up some wine. I'll be doing Waiheke Island on the Friday so hope to grab some wine there as well. cheers, chatters
11/10/2015 3:10:00 PM - Sorry if my comment seemed a little strident. Moet Demi-sec was on a very good offer at Sainsbury's at the time and there aren't many notes on it. I think Nyetimber Demi-sec will still offer much better value. Thanks
9/20/2014 11:13:00 PM - Thanks, ilee! It is a great estate and it so gratifying to see it back in top form. I've got a few 09's and 10's put away, too... In vino veritas!
9/19/2014 4:24:00 AM - Excellent notes on the Hermitage La Chapelle vertical, very thorough and informative. Am a big fan of this estate, so your notes come in very handy. Particularly pleased to note your enjoyment of the 2009 and 2010 vintages, of which I have put away a few bottles for my son and daughter (also vintages 2009 and 2010 respectively). Keep up the great work!
