France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. This wine just keeps better better and better, with more spice and floral aromatics really starting to take shape. Still lots of great orchard fruit throughout.
Tasting, brief note. Much like when tasted a few months back, perhaps slightly less fat, but overall drinking nicely for its price and level, with the reserve and energy to age a bit longer.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Much like the last time tried a few months back, this is all about red fruit with the ferrous and salinity character that makes Chambolle wine so charming. More density vs the Chambolle Villages just tasting.
Tasting, brief note. Not a wine I've often tasting, this is showing both red and black cherry with moderate concentration, but some good nuance. Ok overall, but expensive for its level.
Tasting, brief note. Lean red fruit that is quite good for its level. Faint green hints at finish that I optimistically expect will soften in a year or two.
Tasting, brief note. Lots of black and red cherry aromas and flavors with lots of brown baking spice throughout. Good concentration for its level. Good now, but with the structure to keep improving.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Mostly black cherry and berry with some red cherry hints. Big sized fruit for its level with also lots of firm structure, all with a tart edge on finish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Black cherry and berry aromas and flavors with meaty spice and textures. Dense and powerful, still very youthful and fresh, I expect this will evolve into a very interesting wine.
Tasting, brief note. Blackberry and plum with some liqueur, licorice notes and a forward ripe character. For me, this is borderline over-ripe, but incredibly well with just enough structure to remain nicely balanced.
Tasting, brief note. Blackberry and plum aromas with great spice, espresso and vanilla hints. Lots of power, still very firm tannins. Give this more time in the cellar.
Tasting, brief note. Dense and powerful throughout with black currant, plum and cassis that shows very good fruit concentration, but with a brooding character that will need plenty of time in the cellar to soften.
Tasting, brief note. Much like when tasted a few months ago, this is showing dense and powerful black fruit with a meaty character. Lots of black pepper, anise and dried spice. This needs lots of time in the back of the cellar.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Tasting, brief note. Fleshy, ripe red and black cherry, forward. Showing some background spice and hints of maturity, this is probably best in th enext few years.
Tasting, brief note. I liked this a lot. Less flashy than I remember from earlier vintages of Montevetrano. Lots of black fruit and spice with lots of nuance starting to emerge. This has great restraint and plenty of energy in reserve. Lots of upside potential from here.
Tasting, brief note. Not close to the quality of the last bottle tried a few months back. Black fruit with some cigarbox character, moderate weight and length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Nothing like the last bottle from the same case that I opened a few months ago. This bottle was all earthy and very advanced. Still showing very Vosne-like brown spice, but nowhere near what this bottle should be at this point in its evolution.
Tasted double blind. At first i thought it New World Pinot Noir, so I was confused until seeing it was from 2003. All black fruit with plenty of spice, good power but not particularly evolved. I enjoyed this more shortly after release, but this it has enough structure to continue to evolve and look forward to revisiting this wine over the next few decades.
Tasted double blind. Had both New World and Old World attributes I enjoyed, lots of freshness and energy for its age. Mountain fruit really coming through nicely here.
2012 Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc 84 Points
