Florals, lemon curd and the oak notes show a bit at the moment but I don't mind them as they are. Really finely tuned and balanced, there is a bit of minerality to it with good texture. Like it a lot.
Grapefruit, pine needles, musk and nutty aromas. The palate is slightly honeyed but there is a good streak of phenolics and grip. Persists nicely. Has plenty of interest without being weird for the sake of it.
Mandarin, melon, quince and apple aromas. Seems to have reasonably low acid for a 2008 wine, the sweetness is nice but the texture gets lost a little without the acid piercing through. Medium length, finishes with a slight tang and it is nice but wasn't quite up to expectations for me.
Strawberry, red currant, some darker berry fruit and a tinge of greeness. Minerality shows nicely on the palate, it has medium length and the green note does show up again but it doesn't spoil things.
Earth and raspberry, cinnamon and a real truffly aroma emerged. Palate has good impact, there is a light stalk note that runs throughout and keeps it from being too straightforward. Persistent and bright, this was rather good indeed.
Clean styled. Cherry, raspberry and some bright rose aromas. Medium length, nice red fruit without dipping into sweet territory. Simple but nice to drink.
Light mint, meat, raspberry and some mild oak on the nose. Still showing a fresh element on the palate, but has integrated savoury notes and good balance. I like the style even though it was a multi-region blend for this vintage (Grampians, Bendigo, Strathbogie). Drink now-5 years.
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
Purple edged. Raspberry, violet, a stalky undercurrent, pepper and other mixed spices - interest delivered on the nose. The acid is very good on the palate, refreshing and precise. The tannins do stand out a little but I think they should settle with some time.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Chocolate oak, blackcurrant and mint, as well as some rubber. The palate is more red fruited but it finishes abruptly and seems a bit awkward. Decent, but not very typical Sangiovese in style.
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Smoky, charred oak, licorice, chocolate and some alcohol burn. Shows the heat on the palate too, with plenty of acid while not really having the fruit to cover the oak, acid and alcohol. Did not enjoy.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Funky, meaty, tar and spice. Plenty of savoury notes on the palate too, good length and texture. Has interest for a young wine but I don't know what the future holds for it.
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale
Served blind. Lifted VA and raisins with blueberry and pepper. Dead fruit on the palate, it is sweet but has decent length to go along with it. This isn't for me.
Brown sugar, caramel, mango, chestnut and tea leaves. A medium level of sweetness remains, it's a touch simple on the palate but still has plenty of enjoyment to give.
