Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2000 Bollinger Champagne Vieilles Vignes Françaises 96 Points

    France, Champagne

A full-throttle, no holds-barred powerhouse of a VVF (totally different from the 1998), but beautifully layered, fleshy and velvety, very refined mousse, ripe acidity and the most complex flavour profile I have ever encountered in a Champagne (vanilla, gingerbread, nuts, fishiness, melon, strawberries - the list is endless). Powerful and concentrated, vinous and rich but with a finesse that makes you want to drink it by the bucket. Excellent length. Not for the long term but a joy to drink now - 2015.

  • 2007 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

At this young age already incredibly charming, perfectly absorbed oak, unmistakably Pucelles: creamy lemon, superb salty minerality, fantastic steely acidity that carries the enormous finish, almost painfully concentrated, with a wildness that is reminiscent of the best Folatieres. Leaves nothing to be desired. Drink 2013 - 2022.

  • 2005 Domaine des Clos Beaune 1er Cru Avaux 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Lovely fruit, elegant and stylish, not the earthy character one associates with Beaune although there is a touch of forest floor, tannins in check, good concentration, very well made. Now - 2015/20.

  • NV Ramos Pinto Porto 10 Year Old Tawny Quinta de Ervamoira 91 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

Recognisable house style aimed at length, intensity and finesse, without even a trace of rusticity or heaviness. This 10 YO has wonderful ripe fruit, youthful velvet and good length.

  • NV Ramos Pinto Porto 20 Year Old Tawny Quinta do Bom Retiro 93 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

Recognisable house style aimed at length, intensity and finesse, without even a trace of rusticity or heaviness. Fantastic tension and complexity, great finesse and length, delicious interplay of fruit and nut, hint of cocoa.

  • NV Ramos Pinto Porto 30 Year Old Tawny 92 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

Recognisable house style aimed at length, intensity and finesse, without even a trace of rusticity or heaviness. Obviously more marked by the oak than the 20 YO, not so much maderised but woodsy like an older whisky can be.
