  • Similar notes to prior bottles. Big and rich. Pleasurable but lacking a bit of energy and precision.

  • Gyllengul i färgen.
Till en början ganska sluten. Men efterhand öppnade den upp sig både arom- och texturmässigt.
I doften mogna äpplen, gula plommon, aprikos, mogen mörk citrus, rök, nötter, brödighet, kryddig, ingefära, honung, fick nästan Sauternvibbar i doften.

  • Opened for our daughter's 20th birthday diner and it was sublime!
The color was exceptionally beautiful of fading orange, transparent and poetic hue orange/pink. On the nose such an incredible balance of fruits and flowers but enhancing each other with some smokey, and amberish aromas and on the palate this was surreally subtle and yet intense. Probably the subtlest flavor of fading and transparent orange, Khaki, white peach and flowers and surprisingly none of the nutty profile that I had expected wrongly. Incredibly subtle and yet my wife and our daughter thought it was super intense within the subtlety... magical indeed. As the 2nd and a bit of 3 glasses was being served quite a bit of strawberry, again in the transparent manner, surfaced to everyone's ecstasy. It was just three of us for this bottle and I will remember this for a long time. Vines from pre Phylloxera era. Cheers,

  • Pretasting with a small Salon and VVF vertical Tasting (Elystan Street, London): The coulor was darker than 98 and 99, it seemed to be a little bit tired but after a few hours it was very good drinkable. Balanced, milk cholacolate and still citrus in the finish, the length is the "problem" for me. I would drink it over the next 5-7 years

  • Gold colored. Aromatics a bit reticent at first but with a little air and warmth showed ripe red apple and baked pear and mild oxidative notes. Broad and lush in the mouth. Decent acidity and while I wouldn't call this fat, it is definitely open-knit and lacking a bit of definition in the mouth. Attractive and easy to drink but hoping for a lot more from VVF. Doesn't seem like this will benefit much from further time in bottle.

  • Kritt og medisinskap på nesen.
    Tyktflytende konsentrert.
Det er intenst, men mangler alikevel litt nerve i forhold til 02 og 04.
    Lang som et vondt år.
Svær vin - Nesen trekker ned.

  • Very nice and quite complex with tones of red fruit. This proves my last bottle was defect. A very good champagne but having tasted many vintages of this wine and have seen what this wine can do I have to say it is among the least good vintages. Maybe I am a bit hard here but expectations are always very big when drinking this wine.

  • This might have been a strange bottle. I have never been unhappy with a VVF but this did not do it for me. The mousse was not as vibrant and lacked the energy. There was a green bitter aftertaste even though it felt a bit over the hill. A strange wine all together. I expect it to be a defect. The VVF is normally one of the great champagnes and even if this vintage is not a great one it should not show this bad.

  • A private dinner (Restaurant Northcote Manor *, Langho, Blackburn, UK): A full-throttle, no holds-barred powerhouse of a VVF (totally different from the 1998), but beautifully layered, fleshy and velvety, very refined mousse, ripe acidity and the most complex flavour profile I have ever encountered in a Champagne (vanilla, gingerbread, nuts, fishiness, melon, strawberries - the list is endless). Powerful and concentrated, vinous and rich but with a finesse that makes you want to drink it by the bucket. Excellent length. Not for the long term but a joy to drink now - 2015.
