Introduction

Another great visit, tasting through most of the 2014s. Charles decides to destem all the 2014s, after successfully experimenting with whole cluster 2011 through 2013. He felt there were enough tannins and didn't want to make the wine any more firm. Another very successful vintage from top to bottom.

Flight 1 (11 Notes)

  • 2014 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Bourgogne

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Barrel tasting at the domaine. 100% destemmed. Red cherry and berry start-to-finish, slightly firm and rugged while overall very Chambolle-like. Very good for its level.

  • 2014 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny

Barrel tasting at the domaine. 100% destemmed. All red fruit with subtle spice nuance. Good energy and minerality for its level, as well as good length. Very good for its level. I prefer this over the Vosne villages again in the 2014 vintage.

  • 2014 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Richebourg

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Barrel tasting at the domaine. ML just complete. All 2014s are 100% destemmed. Rich red cherry and berry with great density on nose and palate. Perhaps less spice vs the Romanee St Vivant just tasted, but this still comes across as more alluring today. Excellent potential.

  • 2013 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru

Tasted at the domaine, with the 2nd half of the bottle finished that evening. Bottled 4 months earlier. Great cross-section of red fruit with some black berry hints. Ripe fruit throughout with Asian five spice. Bursts of energy from middle to finish with moderate structure also coming through at end. Great already today (better after open 10 hours vs when popped-and-poured), but even greater potential. I think this will be even better than the 2014 also tasted (from barrel) today.

Tasted at the domaine, popped and poured. Forward red fruit throughout with good spice. Nice textures, this has everything in good balance. Moderate weight. Good already, best for medium-term enjoyment.
