Great dinner at Nico with a beautiful menu that paired perfectly with the wines of Roulot. Thanks to the team at Nico and the HDH team for organizing such a great event.

  • 2003 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

If drank alone, this would have been great. We drank this alongside the 2001 and 2000 Charmes. Both of those wines were far better than this and it suffered as a result. By itself, this had a plush, ripe, round nose...noticeably more tropical than the others. The palate was really nice, with some tangerine, lemon, and flint. The flavors were a bit simplistic and, ultimately, this came across (again...having the context of its flight-mates) as rather one-noted.

Fucking fireworks. My notes read, "wow wine". Incredibly clean, and stoney with a real sense of density without the weight. Tons of elegance along with a real sense of power. One of the finer white burgundies I've had lately.

Lots of sulphur on the nose. Bits of lemon, flint, and stone came through, though. Palate was great - just singing. Flavors were lithe, and layered and I thought it had a combination of the lushness of the 2003 Charmes with the depth and elegance of the 2001 Charmes. Very nice stuff.

Flight 4 - Flight 4 (2 Notes)

Cheese trio; narragansett ricotta, bianco sardo, & pantaleo. I ate this course after I had finished tasting the wines.

  • 2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 98 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

One of the great bottles of wine I've had lately. Aromatics were clean/clear and deep with beautiful, layered aromas of lemons, limes, pears, and stone. The palate was incredibly rich and textured but was, essentially, weightless. Incredible balance, incredible wine.

A riper version of the 2007 Perrieres. The density was amped up a bit, the flavors a bit more pronounced. I gather this would have been a hair more enjoyable a year or two ago. To me, this was an incredibly delicious bottle of wine. Next to the 2007 Perrieres, it seemed a shadow.
