France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Medium red color with a 5mm bricked transition. Slow -O for 1 hour; drank 1 glass over 30 minutes plus. Second time having this in a week, this time from a 750. This was just beautiful and singing its song loud and clear. If you don't like this, then you don't like classic CDP with some age on it. The nose is captivating with a glorious perfume of florals, rose hips, red berry, strawberry, and iron. Then the earth and leather emerges with some detailed wood spice too. The palate is a wow too, tart, tart cherry, strawberry, wood spice, earth, iron, leather, tangy, medium body, well integrated tannins and a long sultry finish. Fantastic.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark red color with a 2mm clear edge. Slow O for 2.5hrs, drank 1 glass over 40 minutes. Primary and seductive immediately, taking on depth and weight over 30 minutes. The nose becomes classic Pegau then, massively floral, blousy garrigue, bright cherry, vanilla, cherry-vanilla, earth and funk. The palate has nice body, medium full, young, earthy, a nice dose of funk, wood and gorgeous primary cherry and berry fruits, silky tannins and great length. This was youthful, but very approachable, sleek and seamless. This will be a star down the road. 94(+)pts.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark slightly murky red with 3mm bricked edge. Slow-O for 1 hour. Drank 1 glass over 20 minutes. Lots of funk on the nose, sour choke cherry, blood meal, dark fruit, slightly stewy, spice. The palate is a bit flabby, sour cherry, black cherry, wood, spice, dusty tannins, blood meal, mineral, a touch of heat. Improved in glass. 90+ to 91pts.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Very dark red, ruby hue. Slow-O for 3 hours. Dark and dusty with vanilla, dark berries, ripe, massive oak, spice, some heat, big fruit. Give it some time and hope it settles down.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark red color. Followed one glass over 45 minutes. Very immature, earth, vegetal, alcohol, big dark fruit, herbs. About the same experience as a couple months ago, not surprisingly. Needs 3 to 5+ years.
Very dark red color. Slow-O for 3 hrs. Followed 1 glass for 30 minutes. Frankly, I couldn't drink this. Very herbal, green streak, unusual fruit mix, dark plum, grapefruit, phenolic, heat, lots of wood. Can this age and improve? I don't really care. Score withheld, but impression is low 80's.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Excellent nose with ripe white fruits, melted butter, apple, white peach, nuts, light citrus. The palate is full bodied, velvety and bright, white peach, melon, apple, apple butter, nutty, rich, citrus, oily, very long and almost luxurious on the finish. Really showing well currently. 93+ to 94pts.
