Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • NV Taittinger Champagne Brut Réserve / La Française 89 Points

    France, Champagne

Decent. The nose was an expressive melange of sweet cream, red apples and sweeter pineapple hints with just a touch of honey and earthy mineral hinting at a little of bottle age. On the palate, creamy mousse and fresh lemony acidity framed rather ripe flavours of stone fruit, pineapple and a little streak of mineral at the finish. Nothing special, but always decent.

  • 2012 Domaine Daniel Dampt et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

A little on the riper, more modern side, but this was pretty decent. The nose bore more than a passing resemblance to Sauvignon Blanc, with tropical fruit and an edge of gooseberries lined with just a whiff of minerality. The palate was more Chablis though, with a citrus spine cutting through fleshy white fruit flavours, and a decent bit of mineral and zest at the finish. Acidity was decently fresh rather than zippy, but still enough to make this very good friendly. Pretty good, and it should get better with a bit of age under its good as well.
