Dark core, chocolate, dull crimson rim; advanced nose, tar, menthol, dark berry, leather, slight dill, herbs, caramel, balsam; dark fruit, balsamico, menthol, sweeter finish, fruitcake, some grip on the finish, clay, pruney, a touch of heat on the finish; not my style.
Very dark core with garnet rim; nutty, VA, black tea, olive, mineral, grainy, fresh berry, dark fruit, dense, cedary, brown sugar; good structure, a certain fleshiness, cedary tannin, juicy dark fruit, grippy grainy tannin, plum; needs more time, very different than previous bottles, lets hope the tannins settle.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark garnet core, maroon rim; floral, framboise, violets, slight tar and black pepper, still a touch of sulfur, young, fresh fruit, slight nori; screechy Grenache on the palate, losing its headiness, mostly purple fruit now, good tartness, medicinal finish, elegant; well stored and aging well; called 2007 Clos des Papes.
Bright yellow; lime, lemon, grapefruit, mineral, green apple, white flowers, sharp nose; lower acid, rich mouthfeel, apple, lighter lemon, almost waxy, some pineapple and white pepper, ginger, has to be botrytis; interesting.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Dark core, dull maroon rim; sweet nose, figs, plum, smoky, garrigue; lots of red fruit on the palate, tart, lots of sunshine, figgy, cherry, raspberry, dense, sweet, good structure; fooled me as CdP again; very good.
Dull crimson core orange rim, see through; sweet floral nose, penetrating rose, strawberry, cherry, smoke, a bit of candy cane, slightly disjointed at this current time, wormwood; palate similar to the nose, simpler at this moment; give this at least 3 more years to come together.
Dark core with brick rim; green pepper, dusty, gravel, pencil lead, ashy, Bordeaux funk, a certain leanness (it had seen a good bit of air by the time I got to it) to it lead me to '94 St. Julien; still very nice.
Crimson core with orange rim, Italian; menthol, cedar, dried roses, cherry, sandalwood, classic; some raisins on the palate, ripe but unmistakably Nebbiolo; in a good place.
