France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Plush, soft sweet red cherries, but with air it becomes clear that this is overoaked, with grainy oak tannin. Maybe it will integrate with time? The red fruit made me guess Chambolle, although I guessed the wrong one. My #5.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Light red strawberry fruit, not a lot of concentration, high acid, clean. Nothing obviously wrong with this but not much of interest for me here either. My #4.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Much bigger, riper, and denser than any of the previous wines. Nice floral notes, likely made with stems Some actual stuffing here. Dark smokey fruit, a dose of oak but there's enough material to handle it. Sappy, silky extract. Very good, my #1. I was convinced this was the Clos Vougeot. I think I liked this much more than anyone else.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Sweetish red cherries, some oak but not too much. Kind of flat at first, but grows on the back end with quite a bit of tannic structure, one of the few wines tonight that shows real structure, if a bit rustic. Good, if not especially typical. My #2.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Very nice ripe Pinot fruit, the only wine that seems very Pinoty, plus whiffs of wood and earth. Rounder than the others, more tannic, plush up front but then a little coarse in the midpalate. Disjoined at first, improves significantly with air, there's real concentration here and good length. My #3, the group's favorite. Objectively the best wine on the table.

Overwhelmingly green and underripe. Thin cranberry fruit and lots of green pyrazine. Not good. My #7.

Slightly cheesy and funky. Tart, flat, fuzzy tannin, actually some concentration and length, but too funky and coarse. My #7

Volatile, cidery, funky. Slightly candied fruit, but with an odd, rot-like bitter character. Geosmin? This is not good. My #8.
