• 2005 Niepoort Porto Colheita 92 Points

  Portugal, Douro, Porto

  Lots of balanced fruit left but also almonds and coffee still maintaining a solid freshness.
  It does need some decanting to shed the alcohol but when it does, it is a pleasure to drink.
  Served at the right temperature it is very easy to drink and overall an impressive effort.

  Plenty of dark plums and sweetness but the alcohol is to dominant.
  A nice bottle but not in balance and seemed tired.
  Bottled in 2008.

  Dark blackberry fruit. Pretty dense flavors and overall it is a fine botle with a fair balance. Lacks depth and aftertaste.

  Blackberry and cherry fruit mixed with hay and smoke but also a lovely touch of peppermint.
  Nice tannic structure, solid fruit and a good acidity. Has some good potential for improvement!

  Light blackberry and black currant fruit with a touch of dairy and coffee. Seems watery in the mid-palate.
  A charming wine in a very different style but simply lacks depth, aftertaste and intensity.

  Solid blackberry fruit with a touch of VA. Powerful young wine with lots of depth and a very good potential.
  After some time it starts to show lots of black pepper and licorice and some very charming floral flavors.

  Some black currant fruit with some brown sugar, coffee. Also a touch of medicin cabinet.
  Slightly more developed compared to the other 99's tasted.

I was very surprise about the level of Rozes and Silval which are really low-level Ports but they really impressed. But, perhaps only against Ports of even lower level.
