Pale tawny color. Aromatic nose of raisins, cherry, brandy, spices. In taste spices, raisin, black dried cherry, oak. Light palate. Light tanins. Medium- acidity. Long aftertaste. Not too sweet. Good.

Bottled 2016. D+0h: no deposit in the filter (I thought Niepoort didn’t filter their Colheitas), smells of raisins, D+12h: decanted back into the bottle and served at fridge temperature, cherry-red colour (quite dark for a wine that has spent 11 years in a barrel), smells of raisins, smoke and eucalyptus, very full body, not that sweet, in the mouth raisins and smoke with liquorice in the background, in the aftertaste raisins, liquorice and acidity, very good length (45 sec), very good Colheita, the wine itself has a long life ahead in the barrel, I look forward to later bottlings.

A private lunch (Restaurant Fera *, Hotel Claridge's, London, UK): Reddish tawny; nutty and rich nose, Cognac, herbs and spices; intense but light palate, playful and light tannins, flavoursome but not hot, spices and black cherries, elegantly sweet; good length.

Vintage Port 1999 (Portvinsklubben 1981): Lots of balanced fruit left but also almonds and coffee still maintaining a solid freshness. It does need some decanting to shed the alcohol but when it does, it is a pleasure to drink. Served at the right temperature it is very easy to drink and overall an impressive effort.

All you could wish for in a "vintage" tawny port. Fresh, deep, smooth, elegant and profound. Love it.
