Introduction

I tasted all wines not blind.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2003 Château de Fieuzal Blanc 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

In the bouquet yellow tropical fruits, vanilla, some nuts and smoky flavors. On the palate some glycerin, yellow fruits, nectarine, pineapple, honey, a touch of sweetness, good citrus and some vanilla in the finish. Really good and still youthful wine.

  • 2006 Château Brown Blanc 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows fresh citrus, yellow fruits, green apples and Sauvignon Blanc flavors. On the palate yellow fruits, butter candy, some green impressions, vanilla and pleasant bitterness in the medium long finish. Although not really great, this is a well balanced wine. 87 – 88

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 1998 Château Picque Caillou 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

In the bouquet red and dark forest fruits, some rust, earth and autumn flavors. On the palate red and dark berries, some bell pepper, good acidity and fairly soft tannin with still some bite. The wine was still surprisingly alive. Ready now and it will not improve, but no real hurry either.

  • 1998 Château Larrivet-Haut-Brion 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

The bouquet is mature and a bit musty and dusty with red fruits, herbs and graphite. On the palate red and dark berries, sweet spices like cinnamon, cranberry, cherry and chocolate. Soft tannin and some old age acidity. Still a friendly wine, but I wonder if this bottle has been stored properly. Still ok and I scored it 88 for this evening.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Château Brown 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows dark berries, cedar and some bell pepper. On the palate a somewhat sweet start with ripe dark forest fruits, caramel, beautiful oak and acidity and round tannin. This wine is in its young maturity stage now and showing nicely. Will be nice until the end of the decade at least. 88 - 89 for this evening, but I will put 88 in CT as my "official" score.

  • 2003 Château Couhins-Lurton 89 Points

In the bouquet dark and red berries, some cherries, vanilla, mint and a touch of bell pepper. On the palate juicy dark and red forest fruits like blackberries, dark cherries, a touch of bell pepper again, good, mild acidity and round tannin with a soft bite. Overall a really pleasant wine. Ready now and the next few years.

  • 2010 Château de Rochemorin 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

The bouquet is still extremely youthful with cherry yoghurt, dark berries, caramel, toast and some green impressions. On the palate creamy fruit, vanilla, firm acidity and sticky tannin. A very ok wine, but not extremely refined or complex. Will definitely improve with more ageing. Try not before 2020. 87+

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, vanilla, toast, graphite and meaty flavors. On the palate red and dark forest fruits, some licorice, vanilla, beautiful acidity and round tannin. Maturity stage now, but no hurry at all. This will still be lovely around 2018+.

  • 2006 Château Latour-Martillac 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Beautiful bouquet with dark forest fruits, toast, tobacco, chocolate and some red berries as well. On the palate round and ripe dark forest fruits, chocolate, tobacco, beautifully fresh acidity and round but still slightly sticky tannin. This wine is in its early maturity stage now and will probably improve a bit over the next few years. Around 2020 (and the 4+ years after) it should be ready for drinking. Hope to taste again by that time. 90+ for this evening.

  • 2009 Château Latour-Martillac 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

The bouquet is still extremely youthful with lactic flavors of blueberry and cherry yoghurt. On the palate ripe dark berries, beautiful oak, a firm amount of sweetness, but also good acidity and round tannin. I drank this wine over four days. Day two it was still a bit locked, day three it still was creamy, but showing much better than on day one and day 4 it was going downhill a bit due to oxidation. Overall a beautiful wine which is still much too young. Start drinking this not before 2022 is probably a wise thing to do, but I have several, so there will be a follow up.
