Introduction

Pretty good night :-) Hosted by myself for the wine club/geeks.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2004 Les Crêtes Valle d'Aosta Cuvée Bois 90 Points

    Italy, Valle d'Aosta

A bit odd as it was quite oxidized but still very tasty and structured. It doesn't appear as if the oxidization is part of what the wine is supposed to be.
However, it did actually didn't feel defective and tasted blind it could easily just have been part of the wine profile.
Plenty of sherry notes with salt but also a pure and very clean delicate fruit.

  • 2004 Sesti (Castello di Argiano) Brunello di Montalcino 91 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Very drinkable but the fruit has certainly matured. The structure is still very nice and feels young.
Quite enjoyable but difficult to determine its longevity.
So far, it was better in its immediate youth.

  • 2004 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 91 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Somewhat prune-like fruit with some depth. The fruit is quite dark and could perhaps improve with more age.
Still a very nice bottle that was nice to taste.

  • 1997 Avignonesi Vin Santo di Montepulciano Occhio di Pernice 98 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montepulciano, Vin Santo di Montepulciano

How to commit to a wine like this. It is extremely dark, extremely intense, extremely sweet, extremely acidic.
Actually a great wine but so wild that it is almost insane to taste something like this.
Still in serious doubt if I really liked it? Crazy stuff...

  • 2004 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année 94 Points

    France, Champagne

Lovely and rich nose filled with plenty of sweet apple fruit, smoke and hazelnuts.
The palate is equally impressive with lot of red and yellow sweet apple flavor with a touch of hazelnut and vanilla.
Plenty of oak and sweetness but very true to the house style. A great wine.
    Consistent with previous note!
