Monthly Tasting Group HWS #021; Port wines.

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

• NV Quinta do Passadouro Porto Ruby 86 Points

  Portugal, Douro, Porto

  Full bodied. Nuts, currants, a firm dose of sweetness. A little drying and alcoholic in the finish. The full body and the price make this a good pqr port wine.

  Cherries and raspberries in the bouquet. Also a bit acidic. A creamy start and full bodied. Very smooth. Even a bit too smooth.

  Creamy bouquet with some cherries. Full bodied, soft and pleasurable. Not extremely complex.

  Very pleasant start. Chocolate, currants and even some nuts. The aftertaste is a little alcoholic, but nevertheless this is a very good Port wine.

  Sour milk in the bouquet, but not in the taste. There is some bitterness. This is the worst port wine I drank the last few months, but still above average supermarket quality.

  Enormously concentrated and complex. The chocolate and ripe blackberries are the most noticeable now. This can last for many more years.

  Very firm and concentrated. Not really pleasant at the moment, but this wine definitely has a long future ahead. My score is conservative.
