There is no theme. Every participant brings one or two bottles fully blind. The wines are split up in whites, reds and sweet wines (if those are brought). No other information. The idea is to go from light bodied and/or old to full bodied and/or young. So randomly someone tells he/she wants to start with the first wine. Then the rest follows when he/she thinks it is a proper moment to pour a wine you brought. And surprisingly enough this system works quite well in most cases. There are no flights. We taste the wines one at a time.

2008 Albert Boxler Pinot Gris Sommerberg 88 Points
France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
Soft citrus and some honey in the bouquet. Not extremely expressive. Still a bit locked? Very clean in the mouth. Some sweetness, pear and citrus. Hint of botrytis even. Full bodied. Low acidity. Some bitterness in the finish. Very youthful. 88+

1976 S.A. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Bizarre bouquet with gasoline and rubber. It comes back in the taste together with apricots, honey and polishing wax. Very well balance between sweetness and acidity.

2004 Azienda Agricola Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
Very special bouquet with at first an impression of all sorts of candy. Later also spiced brown biscuits and even some barnyard. In the taste also citrus, minerals, slate. Something special. Difficult to score, which I don't.

1961 Château La Pointe
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Earthy forest floor impressions. Mushrooms. Firm acidity. Iron. Spices. Very mature, but not dead yet, although it definitely has been better. Impressive in fact for a wine of almost 50 years old.

1990 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Beautiful bouquet with barnyard, red forest fruits, eucalyptus, herbs and spices. Earthy tastes, still some cherry, sweetness and soft tannin. Mature. Not too old yet.

1995 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau 92 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Mature bouquet with a lot of herbs and spices like clove. Although there are tertiary tastes there is still red fruit as well. The wine still has a bite and good bitterness. Although light colored the wine has enough stuffing.

2003 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT 89 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT
Milk chocolate in the bouquet as well as the taste. Spicy. Ripe red fruits. Nice and soft tannin and a bit drying in the finish. An excellent wine, but less impressive than expected. I will open another bottle soon.

2006 Quinta do Crasto Douro Reserva Old Vines 89 Points
Portugal, Douro
Primary bouquet with a lot of cherries and cassis, acidity and dairy. On the palate the wine is much better with good ripe cherries and pleasant oak. The wine is probably in a difficult drinking stage at the moment. Give it 2 - 5 years of cellaring, it will probably be rewarding. The score is for now plus a little potential, so it might be higher in 3+ years from now.

2001 Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 89 Points
Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
Special wine of which I wonder if it is an off bottle. In the bouquet a lot of dairy and some oxidation. Full bodied and a lot of good cherries on the palate, but again some dairy and a firm amount of bitterness. Red and overripe fruits. Good concentration and a lot of acidity and a bit drying in the finish. Difficult wine or drinking stage.

2005 Ojai Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard 89 Points
USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Maria Valley
Grilled meat/bacon, smoky impressions and sweetness. Good dark fruits. Very concentrated and good acidity. Smoky. Oak. Firm amount of alcohol. Very good wine which will benefit with some ageing. Let's say 3 - 5 years to start with. 89 for now with potential for 2 - 3 points more.

2008 Cédric Parpette Côte-Rôtie Le Montmain 87 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Clove, cherries and some dairy in the bouquet. On the palate cherries and a lot of acidity. There is plenty tannin, but it seems to be a little unripe and green. The acidity and unripe impressions are a little too dominant. Give this wine at least 5 - 7 years of ageing. When it all settles and is a little softer it might be a more pleasant surprise. For now only 87+

2000 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito 91 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Deep and somewhat developed bouquet with good cherries, medicine, clove etc. etc. Luxurious in a way. On the palate beautiful soft tannin red fruits, good acidity and bitterness. Full bodied and elegant and perfectly ready now. Just a bit alcoholic in the finish. Drink now - 3+ years from now. I wonder if it will improve much with ageing. 91 might be too low, but that is what I scored it this evening.

1999 Quinta do Crasto Touriga Nacional Douro 88 Points
Portugal, Douro
Spices and chocolate in the bouquet. On the palate the wine shows its maturity, but there still are cassis and red berry fruits. Also chocolate and good bitterness. Good balance between sweetness and acidity. Elegant wine. Ready now, but no real hurry, although this or next year might be wisest.

1998 Château Smith Haut Lafitte 91 Points
France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Luxurious bouquet wit a lot of toasted oak, cassis, some lead pencil and a hint of barnyard. Great bouquet! Same comes back in the taste; a lot of ripe cassis, good tannin, acidity and bitterness. The only negative I can think of is that the wine is medium bodied or just a little bit better than that. Great pleasure! Will stay on this level for several years.

2002 Château Montus Madiran Cuvée Prestige 89 Points
France, Southwest France, Madiran
Very dark and concentrated. Chocolate. Some eucalyptus. Good acidity and bitterness, but also a firm amount of sweetness. The tannin is friendly and supple. After unmasking the bottle I was really surprised. Nothing of the - in its youth - unfriendly Tannat grape. This was much more a friendly, modern made wine. Good quality, but if it has the ageing potential of previous vintages……time will tell.

2004 Oasi Degli Angeli Kurni Marche IGT 89 Points
Italy, Marche, Marche IGT
This wine must be not in the best drinking stage now. It is concentrated with glue in the bouquet as well as the taste. Also chocolate and good sweetness, acidity and bitterness. For the moment I scored it 89, but when it ages another 4 - 5 years it might be higher.

Not so many notes. Full bodied. A lot of fruits; dark as well as red. Garrigue. Young a great pleasure. This will probably age well as well.

2008 Wagner-Stempel Siefersheimer Höllberg Spätburgunder Eiswein 88 Points
Germany, Rheinhessen
Very special wine. Enormously concentrated. Enormous amount of sweetness, but also acidity. At this moment the acidity is dominant in this wine. I wonder how this will age. Will be ok in 15 years from now, but if it will really improve, I wonder. For the pleasure it delivers now only 88.
